I was recently asked about an eBay dealer (movieposterzone) .. I done some searches and I see there some pretty good experiences but also a few negatives .. Mostly due to poor communication .. The only thing that gets me is just the sheer number of rolled posters .. and it seems like this seller has every possible version of most posters that Ive never seen before .. Including SS, DS and the reprints .. all side-by-side .. Its all plainly labeled, so that's a plus .. I just cant get past all the variations of all the different posters .. Now I tell myself the seller lists what is reprints and what is not .. But I cant help but wonder if that's just a wonderful selling tactic .. ?!? Or maybe I'm just to paranoid A question for some of the dealers that hang here .. Would it make sense to gather all types of one poster? (Reprint, SS and DS versions) Also is it a hassle to do that .. I mean I would think you could get the originals from one source but then youd have to find another source for the reprints .. So its twice as much work .. ?? For very little payoff considering a reprint is usually priced at <$10 .. Thoughts, ideas, opinions

I bought from movieposterzone a pretty rare poster in what looked to be pristine condition. I was sort of wary because of the condition, but also didn't feel like it was a poster that was likely to have been bootlegged. On the other hand, there are certainly less desirable posters that have gotten the ol' boot, so I knew that I better take a close look at it when it arrived. It showed up fairly quickly in perfect shape and stood up to every kind of scrutiny I could subject it to. The measurements were perfect, the paper right, and the printing sharp.
I say all of this not as an endorsement of movieposterzone in general, but only to share my experience with that seller. I still would not buy from him (I think it was a him) without prejudice. Then again, there are very few sellers that would go into that category.

I've had the same experience. I've bought 20 or so posters from him, including Lost in Translation (Scarlett), Mulholland Drive, etc. for pretty reasonable prices and they've showed up as originals to my pleasant surprise. Communication is poor - he doesn't respond to emails. But I'm very curious about your real question as well, Fallen. How do dealers obtain these posters in bulk, presumably rolls? Do you just buy a roll from the poster printer? For how much?

I'm not going to get into a lot of details here, but that seller has been sitting on a large pile of inventory for quite sometime. I am talking LARGE, so from what I hear, you can trust what you are buying. Yes, the auction listings are horrible and have no details at all/

Hmm .. Im intrigued that people at least know who this seller is but dont want to "get into a lot of details" Does this seller have info on everyone and is black mailing them to keep his identity and evil master plan a super secret?

No, just some people do not want to be known. Folks in the know in LA area know who this seller is and it is well known how much stuff they have that they were never in a hurry to sell. It has only been the past year or so that some of the gems have been seeing the light of day.

Hmm whats the deal with the massive amount of reprints then? I mean I honestly cant see how that helps the sellers business.. The cost of a reprint is <$10 each and after ebay and PP fee's the seller is maybe making at best $5 or so Now if this seller did NOT have all those reprints listed Id have actually felt more comfortable possibly buying from them and may have bought quite a few posters... Until I realized that majority of the pieces Id want to get a hold of are SS versions ..

So...to satisfy my curiosity about this ebay seller, I purchased a supposed original The Matrix OS. Here's the thing...he as 2 pictures up for the item. 1st pic was a reprint with a March 31st release date and the 2nd picture, which presumably is the original, had an April 2nd release dates and has the uncropped 2 bullets by Keanu's feet. I emailed him about the picture difference and he replied (rather quickly) that the 1st pic was a stock pic that he got from the internet and that the 2nd picture is the actual item and that's the one I am going to receive. Jury is still out http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360229533085&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Yeah, it's a SS poster but it will suffice for now ;-) Just so I have all three in my collection.

I have been wondering about this seller as well. He has a seemingly endless supply of Carpenter's "The Thing" one sheets...all rolled for $45. Too good to be true usually is... in my opinion.

It is enigmatic. I started going through his listings. I havent seen a rolled Strange Brew before either. Also doesnt have the GAU logo that my folded one does. http://cgi.ebay.com/Strange-Brew-1983-movie-poster-/150493671236?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item230a1f2f44
Things that make you go .."What the fuck is up with that?".. Is there a never ending supply of post 1960 posters?

He's obviously got rolls of studio-issued posters, which don't have NSS/GAU info. I've bought several posters from him and all have been legit. If I didn't already have it, I'd jump on his rolled Clan of the Cave Bear for $75. He has it listed as 40" but it is actually 40.5".

There are poster sellers who have bought from printers and studio buys or had central distribution office connection, not every seller has one copy of a poster they got from their friends, sisters, niece that used to manage a theater. Multiple copies from legit sources are often more common than one off sellers for things after 1980 that are in decent shape.

Looks legit to me - mostly double-sided posters, very unlikely to be reprints. By the way, you should get the 2011 RHPS quad:
